Online Safety

At Wilden we make excellent use of the Internet and use it on a regular basis as part of learning. We believe that it is important that children are educated on how to use the internet safely, so that they are able to use it independently to maximise their progress. Internet safety lessons are integrated into many areas of the curriculum and SMART guidelines reinforced on a regular basis.

Parents do also have a huge part to play in keeping their children safe when using computers at home.  In a recent survey conducted by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection unit (CEOP), 82% of parents did not know what they children were doing on the Internet, who they were talking to or what websites they were accessing. The risks of the Internet have been made greater with the increased popularity of Internet and chat enabled mobile phones, so our children can often access the Internet anywhere, anytime, with or without supervision.

Download our eSafety Posters: We have these e-safety posters on display in our classrooms. Why not put one up next to the computer at home and talk about it with your children?

Parent/Carer Tips

Here are some tips and useful links to help you to keep your children safe online:

  • Explore e-safety sites - There are lots of excellent e-safety advice on the Worcestershire e-safety website WES. There are also activities and games for children, so why not browse through it with your children?
  • Facebook / Bebo / Myspace - Many of these sites have a minimum age limit of 13, so our pupils should NOT be using them. They do not have the restrictions or parent control.
  • Keep your computer in a shared area - Talk to your child about what they are doing online and, if possible, set up your computer in a shared area at home, so that you can all share the sites that they visit.
  • Talk to your children about their computer use- Take an interest in the sites that your child is accessing. Don’t assume that they are age appropriate. Ask them to share with you the sites they are using.
