“Dare to soar like an eagle and go to places you have never been before.”
In Eagles, children start to follow the Upper Key Stage 2 elements of the National Curriculum. Objectives are met through the provision of a rich curriculum and wider learning opportunities based around inspiring themes which have been carefully chosen to engage, develop and inspire the minds of 9 and 10 year olds.
Over the course of the year, we consider the impact of previous events in history – from the Viking invasions to the Industrial Revolution – as well as looking to the future and how humans are ultimately responsible for the fate of our planet. Whist our “To Infinity and Beyond” theme enables us to go beyond the realms of our own planet and explore space (always hugely popular), our “World of Wonder” theme provides a key opportunity to explore life cycles and human development.
Educational visits, roles in seasonal performances and participation in the community-related activities all support Eagles to gain real experiences and to enrich their understanding not merely of the curriculum, but also of the wider world. Passion lies at the heart of teaching and learning in Year 5 as we nurture and support our young people on this stage of their life journey.
